Employee Spotlight: Bobby Sligh
Meet Bobby Sligh, our Lead Journeyman Electrician.
He is in his sixth year with A1A Solar. Bobby has 20 years of experience in electrical work and solar PV! He started his career in solar up north in Newark, DE and his manager back then was a stickler for tidy work and quality. If the work wasn’t up to his standards, he made the crew stay until it was right. Bobby values what he learned from him and applies it at every job and every day for A1A Solar’s customers. Along with installing solar PV and battery systems, Bobby also conducts site visits for more complex jobs and does cost estimating for A1A Solar. Bobby has worked on several major commercial solar PV projects for A1A Solar: Garden Produce, Key Cargo, Champion Brands, 121 Financial, Swisher International, Hi-liner Fishing Gear and Tackle, Severt & Sons, and IKEA.
Bobby has been married for 8 years, but they have been together for 16 years. No kids, however, he has a “Dorky” puppy (Dachshund Yorkie mix) named Peanut. He is a big football fan and loves sports! He played baseball all his life and is very athletic.
Moving to FL was the best decision he ever made, and he appreciates the opportunities he has had at A1A Solar. “It has been wonderful being a part of the A1A Solar team”.

Sandhill Crane Migration
In mid-March, I had the good fortune to witness the Sandhill Crane migration in Grand Island, Nebraska at the Crane Trust. The Sandhill and Whooping Cranes have been migrating from Mexico through this area for thousands of years. We saw approximate 400,000 Sandhill Cranes awake to a spectacular sunrise and set off for the day to the cornfields to build up their reserves for the remainder of their journey up to Canada and as far as Siberia. We also got to see them come in for the evening to roost in the Platte River which is a very shallow river that offers the cranes protection from predators while they sleep. They “loaf” in this area for about three weeks before continuing North. We were not lucky enough to see any Whooping Cranes, because only about 600 remain of this endangered species.
I learned that this is a unique place in the world to see this stage of the cranes’ migration. The power and beauty of Mother Nature was truly awe inspiring. If you ever have the chance, I encourage you to visit the Crane Trust from late February into early April.
My love of nature and desire to be a better steward of the environment is what led me to the solar industry and to join A1A Solar Contracting. The weekend with the cranes was a great reminder of how important it is to conserve habitat to ensure the continued success of these beautiful birds. Hats off to The Crane Trust for their dedication and passion for these beautiful animals.
Aside from this amazing migration, Mother Nature has two other great powers – sunshine and hurricanes. If you are interested in taking advantage of the free sunshine to power your house or business through solar PV (photovoltaic) generated energy, please give us an opportunity to design a system for you. If you are concerned about hurricanes knocking out your power, we can also design a battery energy storage system for you to pair with solar PV.
